Hi Drawyne,

Thanks for the question.

There are 2 parts to getting stubborn hair to hold a curl, the tool and the technique.

To answer your specific question, you will want a curling iron which has the option of as high a heat as possible (from our list this would mean the BaByliss PRO Nano Titanium Spring Curling Iron or the The Beachwaver Beach Waver Pro Curling Iron). Note – we don’t say use the highest heat setting straight away, but through a process of trial and error, you will want to find the lowest heat setting possible (to avoid damaging your hair) which still curls your hair.

On the technique side you have hair preparation and then hair hold (post curl). From a preparation point of view, it is harder to curl extremely smooth hair…funnily enough if your hair is too healthy. So what you can do is to avoid conditioning and try curling 2 day old, unwashed, hair!

Some product options also include using a texturing spray or a non-aerosol extra-hold spray prior to curling hair… link to an example product on Amazon -> https://geni.us/texturizingspray

Another important factor is that hair will hold the shape it has, as it cools down…so this would be after curling a strand of hair you hold the curled section gently in the desired shape for a minute of so (as long as you have the patience really).

Hope this helps!

Kind Regards,
Lisa

They don’t really hold curls so what do you recommend?
